Tulsa Police Officer Shoots Suspect Who Pointed Gun at Him

Tulsa, Oklahoma — On February 18, 2023, Tulsa Police Officers were called to a neighborhood near 41st and 129th E. Ave. A series of events in a domestic altercation led Officers to the bar located at the 31st and 129th E. Ave., where the Officer was confronted by the suspect, 31-year-old Joshua Kinyon Taft. Taft was hostile with the Officer on the scene. Initially, Taft showed the Officer his hands.

Then Taft ignored commands and started reaching into his back pocket where he had a pistol concealed on his hip. At one point, Taft charged at the Officer saying, “Shoot me, bro...” Continuing to ignore Officer commands. Taft then turned and started walking to his girlfriend, who was in the parking lot. Taft then drew the pistol from his hip, turned around, and pointed it at the Officer.

At this time, the Officer discharged multiple rounds, hitting Taft. Taft collapsed on the ground. The Officer kicked the gun away then immediately called for first aid for Taft. Taft was hospitalized, and later died from his injuries. The District Attorney has reviewed the case and cleared the Officer involved.
