San Francisco Police Release Bodycam Footage of Barbershop Shootout That Left One Dead and Five Injured

San Francisco police have released intense body camera footage showing the chaotic moments of a deadly shootout that took place inside a neighborhood barbershop. The incident occurred on March 21 and resulted in the death of the suspect, 21-year-old Jehad Eid of Suisun City. Five other individuals were wounded during the exchange of gunfire, including a San Francisco police officer and a teenager.

The dramatic confrontation unfolded inside a barbershop located on Geneva Avenue near Mission Boulevard, in the city’s Excelsior District. The footage, revealed during a town hall meeting held Thursday evening, captures officers’ rapid response and the terrifying exchange that followed.

According to police officials, officers were dispatched to the barbershop after receiving a call from Eid’s family, who reported that he had threatened them and was armed with a firearm. The family told officers that Eid had made serious threats, including threats to shoot them, prompting them to call 911 for help.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located Eid inside the barbershop. Police say that as soon as officers confronted him, Eid opened fire. He allegedly discharged nine rounds at the officers in a matter of seconds. One officer was hit in the leg and immediately fell to the ground.

Body-worn camera footage from that officer shows the chaotic moment he entered the barbershop and was struck. Despite falling to the ground, the officer returned fire while lying on his back. Multiple officers responded in kind, and together they fired a total of 26 rounds during the brief but violent exchange.

Eid was struck 18 times during the shootout. He was transported to a local hospital but later died from his injuries. In addition to the wounded officer, four other people inside the barbershop were also hit. Among the wounded was a teenager who had no involvement in the confrontation. All surviving victims were taken to hospitals and are expected to recover.

Police say the officers’ response was triggered by Eid firing first, creating an immediate threat to their lives and to the lives of civilians inside the business. The barbershop was open and occupied at the time, adding to the danger.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott addressed the public during the town hall meeting, providing context for the video and emphasizing that the incident remains under investigation. He expressed sympathy for the victims and their families, while also praising the officers for responding quickly in a life-threatening situation.

"This is the kind of situation we hope never to face," Chief Scott said. "Our officers responded to an active threat where lives were in danger. The investigation will determine whether policies and procedures were followed appropriately."

The Independent Investigations Bureau of the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, along with the Department of Police Accountability and SFPD’s Internal Affairs, are all reviewing the incident. As with all officer-involved shootings, standard protocols include a multi-agency investigation to determine whether the use of force was justified.

The release of the footage is part of the department’s policy aimed at promoting transparency and building public trust. At the meeting, community members raised concerns about the risks to bystanders and questioned whether there could have been another way to de-escalate the situation. Others expressed support for the officers, acknowledging the difficult decisions made in moments of crisis.

Jehad Eid, the suspect, had no prior serious criminal record but was reportedly facing personal issues leading up to the incident. His family has not made a public statement since the video’s release.

As the investigation continues, the department says it will provide updates and ensure that all findings are made public once reviews are complete.
