Police Video Of Female Cop Beaten By Suspect She Feared Shooting

Chicago, Illinois — The Chicago Police Department has released dash cam and body-worn camera footage capturing a violent encounter between officers and a suspect on October 5, in which a female officer was seriously injured but chose not to use her firearm out of fear of public backlash.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Cicero Avenue. According to authorities, officers responded to a crash after 28-year-old Parta Huff, reportedly under the influence of PCP, drove his vehicle into a business. Officers on the scene began the process of detaining Huff when the situation escalated.

As seen in the released video, Huff initially complies with officers to some extent, allowing one wrist to be cuffed. However, he quickly becomes combative. The female officer is heard on video repeatedly telling Huff to stop resisting and to stop fighting. Despite the commands, Huff continues to struggle. As the officers attempt to take him into custody, he suddenly pulls the female officer down with him.

During the scuffle, the officer’s head strikes the pavement multiple times, resulting in serious injuries. The footage shows the chaotic scene as other officers rush to subdue Huff. After a prolonged struggle, he is eventually fully restrained and placed under arrest.

Huff was transported into custody and later charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery against a police officer. Authorities confirmed that he was under the influence of PCP at the time of the incident, which they believe contributed to his violent behavior and lack of compliance with commands.

The injured officer, whose name has not been released, remained hospitalized more than a week after the incident. Officials stated that she suffered severe head trauma as a result of being slammed onto the pavement. Her recovery is ongoing, and there is no confirmed timeline for her return to duty.

In a press conference following the release of the footage, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson addressed the officer’s restraint during the confrontation. Johnson noted that the officer feared for her life in the moment and knew she could have used her service weapon to stop the attack. However, he said, she hesitated—concerned about the potential fallout for her department, her family, and herself if the incident had ended with the suspect being fatally shot.

"She thought she was going to die," Superintendent Johnson stated. "She knew she should shoot this guy, but she chose not to, because she didn’t want her family or the department to have to go through the scrutiny the next day on national news."

Johnson emphasized the emotional and psychological toll that public perception and national scrutiny have placed on law enforcement officers, especially in situations involving use of force. He acknowledged the incredible restraint shown by the injured officer and highlighted the difficult split-second decisions officers must make in high-stress situations.

The footage and the superintendent’s remarks have sparked discussions throughout the city and beyond, raising questions about how public opinion may be influencing law enforcement behavior, particularly in life-threatening circumstances.

The department has not yet confirmed whether the officer will return to duty once medically cleared. Meanwhile, Huff remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings. The investigation into the incident continues, though police say the video evidence clearly supports the charges brought against him.

The Chicago Police Department says it is committed to transparency and accountability, while also ensuring the safety and support of its officers. As public conversation continues around policing and community relations, the events of October 5 serve as a vivid and sobering example of the complex dynamics officers face on the job.
