Dashcam Video Of Officer-Involved Shooting in New Jersey

Haddon Township, New Jersey — A man who was shot by a police officer during a traffic stop is now facing multiple weapons-related charges, according to an announcement made Wednesday by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The man, identified as 38-year-old Edmond Brown Jr., has been formally charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon by certain persons. Authorities allege that Brown was in possession of a firearm at the time of the officer-involved shooting, which occurred late last month.

The incident unfolded on the morning of October 29 at approximately 9:40 a.m. Officers conducted a routine traffic stop on North Route 130 near Alabama Road in Haddon Township. Brown was reportedly behind the wheel of a vehicle when an officer attempted to pull him over for an unspecified traffic violation.

As the officer approached the vehicle to identify the driver and begin the stop, Brown allegedly made the decision to flee. Authorities say he sped off before crashing his vehicle into a parked car shortly after attempting to escape. The sudden crash halted Brown’s attempted flight and led to a confrontation between him and the officer.

According to the prosecutor’s office, a “brief struggle” then ensued between Brown and the officer at the crash site. During that altercation, the officer discharged his firearm, striking Brown once in a lower extremity. Specific details regarding how the physical altercation escalated to the use of force have not yet been released, as the investigation remains ongoing.

Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, and Brown was transported to Cooper Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Despite being hospitalized, Brown remained in police custody throughout his treatment. His condition following the shooting was described as stable, though no further medical updates were provided.

In addition to the weapons charges, Brown faces an array of other criminal allegations stemming from this incident and his prior record. These include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, eluding police, assault by automobile, aggressive driving, and probation violations. His legal history includes previous encounters with law enforcement, though prosecutors did not detail the nature of those prior convictions.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office also revealed that a firearm was allegedly recovered at the scene, although further forensic analysis is expected to determine its connection to Brown. It remains unclear whether the weapon was brandished or used during the encounter.

Following department protocol for incidents involving the discharge of a service weapon, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. His name has not yet been released, and it is not known how long he has served with the department. Officials stated that this step is standard in such cases and not indicative of any wrongdoing at this time.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. The Internal Affairs Unit of the police department, along with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, is reviewing body camera footage, interviewing witnesses, and collecting forensic evidence related to the case.

As of the latest update, Edmond Brown Jr. is being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail. A court date has not yet been publicly announced. The prosecutor's office indicated that additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.

The case has drawn local attention, especially in light of ongoing discussions around police use of force. Officials have not commented on whether any footage from the incident will be released to the public, citing the sensitive nature of the investigation.
