Bath Township, Michigan — July 12, 2025

On the afternoon of July 12, 2025, at around 2:27 p.m., officers with the Bath Township Police Department were dispatched to the 6000 block of Heathfield Drive near Pine Hollow Drive following a report of suspicious activity. The initial 911 caller informed authorities that an unidentified individual was seen walking through residential yards and appeared to be attempting to break into vehicles. The caller also observed the suspect entering a neighbor’s garage before disappearing from view.

As officers responded to the scene, Central Dispatch received a second 911 call from a resident located on Nichols Road, just a short distance away. This caller reported a far more serious situation: he had been stabbed by an unknown person who had entered his home without permission. The escalation prompted an immediate response by officers to the Nichols Road address.

Upon arrival at the residence, police made entry into the home and encountered a chaotic and dangerous situation. Inside, officers found both the injured homeowner and the suspect, who was holding the victim hostage at knifepoint. The suspect had the blade pressed to the victim’s throat, prompting a tense standoff. Officers gave verbal commands in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

During the confrontation, the suspect momentarily separated from the victim and made a break for it. He fled through a side door, still armed with the knife. Despite repeated commands to stop, the suspect continued running from the scene, heading toward the nearby Meadows neighborhood. At this point, officers discharged their service weapons, although it is unclear whether the suspect was hit.

As the foot pursuit continued, the suspect entered a residence on English Oak Drive, locking the door behind him. Officers quickly attempted to breach the door to gain access. The homeowner, unaware that the intruder had entered the house, heard loud banging and shouting from the officers. Upon realizing what was happening, the resident opened the door and was safely evacuated by police.

Shortly after the entry was made into the English Oak residence, the suspect fled once more—this time running to a neighboring home. As he entered the neighbor’s garage, one of the officers discharged his firearm again. Officers then engaged in a brief physical struggle with the suspect, during which a Taser was deployed. This allowed officers to subdue the individual and place him under arrest.

Immediately after the suspect was taken into custody, officers began providing medical aid at the scene. Emergency medical services were called and arrived promptly. The suspect, who had sustained injuries during the incident, was transported to UM Health – Sparrow Hospital. As of the latest update, he is listed in stable condition.

The original stabbing victim, along with other affected residents, was evaluated and treated at the scene. Fortunately, none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. No officers were harmed during the series of confrontations, though the situation posed a significant risk to both law enforcement and members of the public.

As part of standard procedure, the Bath Township Police Department has placed the officers involved in the shooting on administrative leave while the incident is under review. Investigators are continuing to piece together the events leading up to and following the initial trespassing report.

This incident spanned multiple homes and involved a complex, fast-moving series of events. It has left the community shaken, but thankful that no lives were lost. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.
